“The Platinum Plus scheme is very flexible in that it
provides a choice of two different levels of cover in terms of tractor
components and also a choice of hours and duration,” the brand’s UK service
manager, Richard Wareham, said. “This means buyers can strike a balance between
risk, based on tractor usage, and the premium they feel comfortable paying.”
Moreover, having agreed with the
dealer what level of cover is required, there is nothing to pay other than the
premium – there are no ‘excess’ charges levied when a legitimate claim for
parts and labour is made.
“It’s important to remember that,
as with any scheme of this type, there are terms and conditions,” Mr Wareham added.
“Obviously, the tractor must be used properly and it must have been serviced
and maintained in accordance with our schedules by a franchised dealer using
genuine replacement parts.”
Buyers can choose one of three
running hour bands within each of four time periods from two years to five
years. This flexibility means that operators who do not put too many hours on
their tractor are not penalised by having to pay a premium covering heavier
usage.
For example, the two-year programme
has usage bands of up to 1,000 hours, 1,800 hours and 2,400 hours, while the
five-year programme accommodates tractors used for up to 2,500 hours, 3,600 hours
and 6,000 hours.
“The premiums are calculated on a pro
rata basis – the
more a tractor is used the greater the risk of component failure, so the higher
the premium,” Mr Wareham said. “But either way, it means there are no
unexpected repair bills to pay as the tractor puts on hours.”
There are two levels of coverage – Powertrain for the engine, transmission and
brakes; and Powertrain Plus, which adds cover for the hydraulic and electrical
systems.
“Bear in mind this comes on top of
the standard 12-month, 1,200-hour manufacturer’s warranty for all our
agricultural tractors,” Mr Wareham added. “It’s a good way to protect against
repair costs caused by component failure – and any unexpired cover adds to the
value of the tractor because it carries over to a new owner if the machine is
sold.”
