Joining the Deutz-Fahr 60 Series combine harvester range, the Deutz-Fahr 6040 is the new starter model that should find a popular niche in the market as a reliable and economical straw walker combine with many proven design points that help to ensure trouble-free harvesting.
    A five-straw walker, 222hp machine, the 6040 utilises the well proven threshing system employed successfully in the other 60-Series models.
    Power is provided by a 222hp Deutz turbo-diesel engine with the drive taken from both sides of the engine - an arrangement that results in an efficient and logical distribution of power to the combine harvester's separate components along with a three-speed transmission. The fuel tank has a capacity of 345 litres.
    The threshing, separation and cleaning units are similar to those used in the larger models of the 60 series. The 6040 provides a straw walker area of 5.28 square metres and a cleaning area of 4.22 square metres. Adjustment for the threshing drum and fan speed is electrical, while the concave is adjusted mechanically. The effective and reliable dual returns system was also adopted from the larger models.
    Equipped with a modified Commander Cab Evo, the new combine is simple and undemanding to operate and allows long days of harvesting without undue fatigue. Mechanical operation of the threshing unit, cutting unit and grain bin emptying is standard and, as a result provides a high degree of reliability. With cutting widths of 4.20m, 4.80m and 5.20m, the headers in the Farmline configuration are equipped with three hydraulic connections. Attachments can be specified to cope with different crop types.
    Grain bin capacity is 6,500 litres, and the discharge auger can be 4.0m or 5.0m long depending on specification. The discharge rate is 75 lit/sec.
    The robust build and proven technology employed by the new 6040 makes it an interesting option for farmers and contractors looking for a reliable, product-conserving combine harvester with low operating costs.
