Simba's 6.0m SLD cultivator is built to handle 400hp or more.
Simba's new SLD cultivator is designed to produce a well cultivated and consolidated seedbed, with the sub-soil restructured up to 300mm deep, in a single pass. It effectively bridges the gap between the company's existing SL and Solo ranges, and incorporates elements from both.
Machines will initially available in two working widths - the SLD 460 at 4.6m wide with seven tines at 665mm spacings and requiring 300hp-plus, and the SLD 600 (6.0m wide) with nine tines at the same spacing, requiring 400hp-plus. Models of other widths may be introduced in the future.
The SLD is fitted with 600m diameter discs at 250mm spacings (net 125mm spacing between the two gangs).
"Using this disc size and spacing ensures high disc rotation speeds, which helps leave a fine finish, while maintaining the machine's ability to chop and incorporate significant volumes of trash,"
Simba's chief design engineer, Adrian Hartley, said. "The SLD - which has been developed with over a decade's experience with the Solo and SL in mind - is attracting significant interest from farmers that have used the Solo to restructure their soils, are enjoying the benefits of that and are now looking to take the next step forward in refining their crop establishment systems."
The SLD uses Simba's Pro-Lift hydraulic reset legs as the deeper working element, these being run at anything up to 150mm deeper than the discs, and to a maximum of 300mm depth. They can be fitted with a range of different wings, according to the soil type, conditions and trash levels, and are arranged in the V-shape that has proved highly effective in achieving good soil flow through the Solo and SL.
Finally, the SLD's DD roller incorporates 700mm diameter DD rings at 230mm spacings, which provide highly effective consolidation and leave a ridged, weather-proof seedbed that is ready for drilling or can be left to weather over the winter.
Both models fold to 3m for road transport, and are fitted with hydraulic brakes as standard, with an air braking system available as an option. All models feature a full European standard road lighting kit.
The SLD 460 costs £66,925 and the SLD 600 £77,954. Options include a factory-fitted oilseed rape sowing kit at £7,650; a Cat 5 shackle (in lieu of Cat 4) at £450; and a rear drawbar with four hydraulic pipes at £1,350. Also available is an air brake option at £757.
