The Simba Great Plains Discovator is available in widths from 4.7m to 7.2m.
Great Plains' Discovators are high-output seedbed cultivation and finishing tools that leave a seedbed that is ready for drilling with no further work in a single pass. The machine is being trialled and demonstrated in the UK this year, with pricing and availability to be confirmed.
As well as helping achieve optimum time and cost efficiency, the cultivator also greatly reduces the potential for crop establishment being disrupted by rainfall between operations.
The machine features leading cutting discs that run ahead of the cultivating and trash-mixing legs, which are followed by a three-row finger harrow and open-bar crumbler roll, this combination cultivating the seedbed before levelling and consolidating it.
Customers can match the machine they buy to their own soil types by specifying different combinations of ground-contacting parts.
The leading discs are close spaced (20cm) so they chop trash thoroughly, and can be either low-concavity disc blades which have a good mixing action to help bury more trash and crop residues, or 20cm Turbo blades, which are fluted so they penetrate the soil efficiently, while trapping and chopping crop residue and stubble very effectively.
Two style of cultivating tines are available. The heavy-duty K-Flex tines have 85kg trip force so they perform a consistent cultivation to the desired depth in normal soils, while the heavier-duty Magnum tines (93kg trip force) are better suited to heavier soil types and stonier conditions, as they can trip clear of stones very efficiently.
Both styles of tine can run up to 100mm deep and vibrate in work, an action that helps shatter clods and root balls and achieve an excellent cultivation that leaves weeds and volunteers on the surface, where they die and help conserve seed-bed moisture.
Tines are spaced at 180mm spacings and fitted with 225mm wide points, which guarantees a significant degree of overlap between then, which ensures that all weeds are severed and all the seedbed cultivated.
They are arranged in Great Plains' Max-Mix configuration, which ensures that the soil moves evenly through the machine, avoiding any ridging effect and providing a well levelled finish.
The following harrow is fitted with durable teeth that smash root balls or other lumps of soil brought to the surface by the cultivating elements, and also ensure vegetation is pulled to the surface. The seedbed is finished by a crumbler roller that levels the seedbed and presses it to conserve moisture
A simple single point adjustment located on the front of the machine allows for the working depth to be changed quickly and easily, allowing for precise control of the cultivating depth.
The relationship between the working depths of the front discs and tines can be adjusted independently to suit soil types and moisture conditions. Overall working depth is set via the self-levelling hitch and a turnbuckle system. The entire machine can 'contour float' to ensure consistent cultivating depth even on undulating land.
Discovators are available in four working widths - 4.7m (which needs 115hp+); 5.4m (135hp+); 6.5m (155hp+) and 7.2m (185hp+). All fold to 3m for transport.
