Vicon: Grassland launch for bale wrappers
Published on May 29, 2011
The covers came off a new range of Vicon bale wrappers at Grassland & Muck 2011. The four-model range includes versions with cable, proportional joystick and electronic computer control systems. The models includes the BW2100, BW2400, BW2600 and the range-topping BW2850 twin-satellite trailed model. The trailed turntable BW2400 wrapper features a self-loading mechanism, a mechanical film cutter and can handle round bales up to 1,000kg. The standard model is cable controlled and fitted as
standard with a bale and wrap counter with AutoStop function. A joystick-controlled version
with semi-automatic operation is also available. The clever design of the frame, with its extendable wheel arm
on the right hand side, allows an increase in track width on the field for
maximum stability during loading of bales. This allows bales up to 1,000kg to
be loaded without any counterweights on the machine. The hydraulically operated loading arm is positioned on the
right hand side and can handle bales from 1.20m up to 1.50m diameter. The trailed BW2850 satellite bale wrapper can handle bales up to 1,500kg and features a scissor-type film cutter. As standard, it comes in semi-automatic format with
electronic joystick control, but a optional computer-controlled version with
a control box and joystick offers fully automatic operation.

The Vicon BW 2850 is well suited to professional operators
looking for an easy-to-use, high-volume wrapping operation. The wrapping table has four endless belts and two driven rollers. It carries and rotates the bale evenly during wrapping with no risk of film
damage. The twin pre-stretchers ensure high-speed wrapping. They are
positioned close to the bale, to limit the amount of air trapped under the
film during wrapping. The inline layout means that it loads and unloads bales in
the same direction as the baler leaves them, so avoiding having to drive over
un-baled swaths and also allowing the wrapper to be towed behind a baler if
required. The loading system doesn’t require the wrapper to lift the
bale. Instead it gently rolls the bale onto the table, which then tilts to a
level position to start wrapping.
