Lemken: Karat cultivator ideal for oilsed rape establishment
Published on August 28, 2011
Lemken has reported a large increase in the number of customers mounting oilseed rape seeders on the company's Karat cultivator range. The Karat tines can work as deep as 30cm, ensuring there is no resistance to root development within that depth, but also prepare a fine tilth which is important for germination. A choice of points from 80-120mm wide, and wings for shallow work, mean the tines can be configured to produce the optimum seedbed for the task at hand. Very importantly, the Karat's double packer roller is said to provide firm reconsolidation to conserve moisture and encourage germination.

Feedback, from customers that used the system last year suggest it has delivered exceptional rape yields. Deep loosening, provision of a fine tilth and good consolidation would appear to provide the best environment for oilseed rape establishment, and the Karat range offers all of these things.
