Opico: More Maschio products launching at Lamma 2012

Published on November 22, 2011

Several new products from Maschio will feature on Opico's stand at the 2012 Lamma Show, taking place at Newark on January 18/19.

Maschio products are now being imported and distributed in the UK by Opico, and in addition to the extensive ranges of power harrows, rotary cultivators and flail mowers, the new agreement includes a totally new range of drills. The drill range includes gravity-fed and pneumatic power harrow drill combinations, as well as well the Primavera solo tine seeder that was demonstrated at the 2011 Tillage event.
At Lamma, Opico will launch the Toro, a new heavy-duty hydraulic-folding power harrow that is available in 5m and 6m working widths. The Toro is designed to meet the demand for a folding power harrow capable of working on tractors providing up to 380hp at the PTO.
Opico's Maschio product specialist, David Day, said tractor horsepowers were constantly increasing and the requirement continued for ever higher daily work rates.
"The Toro is capable of working 24 hours each day, every day, thanks to its fan-cooled wing gearboxes," he said.

The new Toro power harrow is capable of working 24 hours/day thanks to its fan-cooled wing gearboxes.

All the standard features incorporated into the existing Maschio power harrow range are retained on the Toro. These include the Rapido quick fit tines, and the 25cm spacing on the rotors to give a fine finish. The Toro also features spherical taper roller bearings on the rotors which are 30 per cent stronger than standard taper rollers, this provides the strength needed to work deep in arduous conditions.
Lamma will be the first opportunity to see examples of the whole range of power harrow drills, including the Dama Box Drill and the
Alitalia Air Drill.
"We have done a number of demonstrations since Tillage with Maschio drills and are very impressed with their work rates and the consistency of emergence," Mr Day said. "The Maschio power harrows have more blades per metre than many harrows on the UK market. So they provide a finer tilth which assists accurate seed placement and soil-to-seed contact, and is the reason why customers have seen such consistent emergence."
Another drill on display at Lamma, and which is expected to be very popular in the UK, is the Maschio Primavera Tine Seeder.

The Maschio Primavera Tine Seeder will suit many farming enterprises with its low running costs.

"This is a simple drill that suits many farming enterprises and has relatively low running costs," Mr Day said. "As with the other drills in the range, the Primavera features RDS control units and the Maschio Flexeed system which utilises seed metering cartridges to allow operators to swap between seed types and rates very easily."
The range of Maschio flail mowers will also be at Lamma, and all of them benefit from the company's expertise in drive trains and gearboxes.
"These flail mowers utilise the knowledge that Maschio has built up in the manufacture of PTO driven products," Mr Day said. "They are a natural extension for a company that produces thousands of power harrows and rotavators each year."
The flail mowers on display will be the Bella, Tigre and Giraffona, all popular examples of a much larger range. The Bella is designed for lighter applications, while the Tigre is designed for heavy scrub cutting on up to 170hp tractors. The Giraffona is the heavy-duty offset model designed for verge, ditch and field margin mowing.
